Around 15 to 18 months or when you and your partner decide that it is time to teach your child to feed themselves either because you feel its time or your child is insisting that they hold the spoon, be prepared for mealtimes to be extremely messy.

As your toddler tries out their skill at using a spoon and has a go at drinking from a normal cup most of it ends up on them or the floor, so be prepared.

By the time your child reaches three to four, there will be less to clear up as they manage a cup well and uses a spoon, fork and possibly even a knife like a pro.
