Karen’s story
At the age of 18 I had an ovarian cyst and due to its size the doctors had to remove one of my ovaries. Luckily, I had
my periods as normal and on time.
After getting married, we were not trying and I got pregnant after just three months. We were happy but also scared.
On my first visit to the doctor he told me that there was a problem. I had a fibroid growing together with the baby. Sadly
we lost our son at four months. That was a very hard time for us. I had to have the fibroid removed in order to get pregnant
again.
After about a year we decided to try again. After three months of trying to conceive, I had lots of pain and decided to
see my doctor. At my visit he discovered that I had a cyst on my remaining ovary. The doctor suggested I have my tubes cleared
but it turned out the tubes were not blocked. The doctor then prescribed Clomid. I used it thinking that with the first try
I would get pregnant. But it did not happen. We are still waiting but we are very hopeful.

Christy's story
I started having pain in my abdomen and my periods had become erratic, I went to the doctor and they sent off for blood
tests. Two weeks later I went to the hospital and they did an ultrasound. I had high testosterone, messed up hormone levels,
an enlarged ovary. I was diagnosed with PCOS. It was a complete shock to me and I got very depressed for a week or so. I was
asked if I would like to go onto clomid and after discussing it with my husband, we said yes. . Two months after starting
the clomid and other drugs I was pregnant with my little boy.

Sally's story
My husband and I tried for 3-1/2 years to conceive. Consulting our G.P. he told us that sometimes it takes time. I would
bleed for months at a time and the doctor never once thought that this was a problem.
In total desperation I finally had enough and went to see another doctor who started tests and put me on clomid we tried
for another year with this method. Tubes were screened, sperm was tested but everything looked fine.
Finally we went to the hospital and they took one look at my history and at me and said you have PCOS. "OK, what the hell
does that mean?" I thought, they explained and I must admit it was very scary. As we had already been trying for 4 years the
consultant felt that it may be best to try IVF.
After my first harvest I had 15 eggs, out of which were 6 class A embryos. We transferred 2 and froze 4. The pregnancy
test came back positive! We had an ultrasound and we were told we were pregnant with twins. We were shocked that it had worked
as we had set ourselves up for disappointment.
Unfortunately, when we went back a few days later they told us that only one twin had survived and the other one would
just disappear I was more devastated about the one that didn't make it, when I should have been thinking about the one that
did.
It took some time to actually believe I was pregnant. But he is a miracle, and now a year on we are preparing to have more
eggs implanted, fingers crossed!
